"May the Lord give you understanding in all things." - II Timothy 2:7

Believer...
is another word for a Christian - Someone who "believes" in Jesus Christ. An "unbeliever" is someone who is not a Christian.

Baptism...
is the immersion of a believer into water. It is a statement to the world of faith in Jesus Christ that identifies a believer with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection ( Hebrews 10:25).

Born again...
When a person becomes a Christian, they are "born again" - they have a new birth and a new life in Jesus Christ. See John 3:1-21 where Jesus talks with Nicodemus about being " born again".

Communion...
is also called The Lord's Supper. We eat bread to represent Jesus' broken body and we drink juice to represent Jesus' shed blood. In the New Testament, The Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death ( I corinthians 11:28,29,31). The importance of communion is to examine ourselves and be renewed in righteousness and holy living as we remember Christ's death. We take communion in remembrance of Him - (I Corinthians 11:25).

Faith...
"Faith and believing that Christ is what He is said to be, and that He will do what he has promised to do, and then to expect this of Him" (Charles Haddon)

Fasting...
is denying the pleasure of eating so we can focus on our fellowship with God. The purpose of fasting in the Gospels and in the Old Testament was so a person could deny himself in his physical being so he might concentrate on coming into closer fellowship with God. The principle of fasting is a tremendous way to emphasize the inward person for a short period of time.

Forgiveness...
is canceling a debt; no longer liable for an account. The Lord Jesus has fully discharged all our obligations so that there is no legal ground for charges to be pressed against us anymore. Moreover He has given us a perfect standing before God so that we are fully acceptable in His sight.

Grace...
is God giving to us what we did not deserve in the form of eternal life. Salvation is free- by grace alone. We cannot earn salvation. It is a gift that God offers and we accept. " For it is by grace that you are saved, through faith. This does not depend on anything you have achieved,. it is the free gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8 Phillips).

Holiness...
is a purity of the heart, undefiled, separate from sin(ners). We cannot become holy without the Spirit of God. Galatians 5:22 tells us that the characteristics of holiness are nine-fold: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Justification...
is the pivotal idea in the doctrine of salvation. If a person is to be justified, he must plead not guilty and show that the opposition has no case against him at all. Because Jesus went to the Cross, when we put our faith in Him, we are pardoned. Our death sentence has been paid by Jesus Christ.

Living Sacrifice In the Old Testament...
an animal sacrifice was needed to receive forgiveness of sin. In the New Testament, there is no need for dead sacrifices anymore because Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for us.  What God wants from all of us is that we become living sacrifices, that we present our bodies as instruments of service to God. "I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice..." (Romans 12).

The New Testament...
is the last 27 books of the 66 books of the Bible. It begins with Matthew and ends with Revelation. The New Testament was originally written in Greek.

The Old Testament...
is the first 39 books of the 66 books in the Bible. It begins with Genesis and ends with Malachi. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew.

Salvation...
When we are "saved," we become a Christian, and we are a brand new person inside. We are not the same anymore. A new life has begun! (Paraphrase of I Corinthians 5:17 TLB). We use the word "saved" because we are saved from death and saved to eternal life.

Sanctification...
is growing in the Lord, becoming holy in life. Sanctification is living every day in light of who we are in Christ. It is practiced purity- a challenge, especially in the culture in which we live.

Sin...
is anything we do that violates God's commands for our lives. Sin was brought into this world by Adam and Eve and so we are all born with a sin nature- the desire to serve ourselves instead of God. The Hebrew word for sin is "transgression" or "rebellion." The Greek word in the New Testament for sin literally means "missing the mark."

Tithe...
is 10% of what we earn. Our tithe goes to the church where we worship and serve. The tithe is part of our worship and belongs to the Lord. Our giving is the method that has always been used of God to meet the needs of the local church.

Trinity...
Although the word Trinity never appears in the Bible, it is a biblical truth. God the Father, God the Son. and God the Spirit are three different persons, but one in essence. We call them the Trinity because they are literally "three in one."

Witnessing...
is sharing our faith, telling others about the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Successful witnessing is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results up to God.
